Review: As good as the Shining was something I said to all around me as soon as the picture ended. Brilliantly conceived and executed. Fast paced action + beautifully shot + not too gory + a cast of characters you really cared about all combined to make this the best experience of jumping and screaming and laughing Ive seen from a bunch of experienced horror show aficionados I have ever seen. Good performances from all including the kids. Very unpredictable and wholly inventive storyline. Even the cleverest plots and safeguards will not defeat the pure evil of the Oculus.Very good effort from some brilliant and talented people.

Review: For the most part, you will come out seeing this film with what you expect. The Book Thief takes place during the Holocaust, a subject seen in many other renowned films, but the beauty of this story comes from the perspective viewers get - that of a childs. There is an excellent blend of different pieces that move the film along well - the violence and the intensity of the time period, the touching relationships between friends and family, and the humor they all share. Though its nothing new, the writing and lines are still great and make the characters very likable. Performances by the entire cast, no matter how small or large a role they play, are certainly deserving of praise. Even with all the dramatic events surrounding them, it is easy to get caught in the relationship between Geoffrey Rush and Emily Watson as the familiar nagging parents of Liesel. The various sets of the film - backed up with some clean, beautiful cinematography (yet nothing too astounding) - show several different parts of the town, but you are still left wanting to see more of this world. Which is where the film falls in general. For the majority of the movie, you are invested into these characters and you follow their time through WWII, and much goes on. The ending, however, comes rather quickly and you are left with that same feeling of wanting to know more. Not just of the ending, but everything before. It seems every time a moment - of suspense, of sadness, or happiness - comes, it holds on for a short while, but cuts off before you can fully take it in.Still, the film gives a touching story to watch. The subject matter is obviously very serious, but the story of The Book Thief allows a wide range of people to watch this and understand, be it a young child or an adult. The characters are the best part of this film and I found them very enjoyable. The film is rather traditional and almost doesnt fit in with the rest of todays movies, but rather reminded me of many other older classics.

Review: Acclaimed Canadian filmmaker Atom Egoyans The Captive (2014) is a strange mess that leaves one high and dry and utterly frustrated. It shows promise to begin with but ultimately gets lost in the vacuum created by Egoyans over-ambitious, almost ludicrous storytelling and below par execution - a clear case of a gifted filmmaker undone by his own lack of judgment, clarity, and poor selection. In fact, the best way to describe The Captive would be as a futile exercise in wishful filmmaking. What hurts most is that the movies plot in itself is quite plausible. It revolves around a young girl who is abducted by a pedophile, with the police and parents trying their best to locate her but with little luck. The theme harks back to Sean Penns The Pledge but the maturity in execution that Penns film had is clearly missing here. Barring some decent acting thats on display, courtesy of Ryan Reynolds, Rosario Dawson (smoking hot as ever) and the rest of the cast, the movie has nothing much to offer except for loads of drivel and foolish fancies spun by a motley of muddle headed individuals, seemingly carried away by the burden of their own genius. For more, please visit my film blogsite:http://www.apotpourriofvestiges.com/

Review: I am a hard core movie fan and I was impressed after watching the trailer of MARY KOM and decided that I have to watch this movie. I have always been a big fan of sports movies be it Chak De India, Iqbal or Lagaan. The movie is a Biopic of Indian Boxer Mary Kom who hails from Manipur. How she becomes Boxer, relationship with her father, struggles in career, discovering her husband and other hurdles faced on road to being a champion. What works in the movie?Acting: A brilliant portrayal by Priyanka chopra s Mary Kom, she has worked really hard for the film and you can clearly see that effort visible on the screen both physically (Training) and mentally (Acting). Cinematography: I must really applaud the way the cinematographer has pictured the boxing ring, locations, moods, emotions, lighting. Really good job. Music & BGM: The nom is, sports movies shouldnt have songs but major movie going population in India is accustomed to songs and the Director has managed to place the songs subtly in the movie intelligently. What doesnt work?Editing: Editing is very important aspect of the movie, it majorly determines the big factor length The movie is about 2 hour 5 minutes and for a Biopic I thought this wasnt enough, it needed to be a bit long.Fight sequences: I was disappointed with the fight sequences in the movie. The boxing match that takes place in the ring should have been better choreographed, cmon? You are showing a world champion boxer you got to get it as close to reality as possible. No comparisons but see the movie Million Dollar baby.Direction and Screenplay: I think the director should have worked better on the screenplay which keeps the audiences hooked to the screen; there were moments where I was not interested on whats going in the screen. Its a challenging job for the director to capture a biopic as you cannot make major alterations to the story and you have to keep it as close to the reality. After watching this movie my respect towards Priyanka as an Actor has increased to the next level and I knew Mary Kom is a boxer in India but after this movie she holds highest respect as a sports person in my world. I give this movie a 7/10 and I would recommend a onetime watch. Oh and more point: You should stand up at the end of the movie if you are an Indian

Size: 815 mb Files: 3

Review: By some miracle, the run time of this movie has proved to be the exact same length as that of the forth installment of the Transformers franchise. Having slogged through nearly three hours of robots hitting robots shot from a camera permanently fixed between the thighs of our lead female protagonist a week earlier, Richard Linklaters latest contribution to modern cinema was a more than welcome reminder that visionary filmmakers still exist, and that the actual run time compared to how long the run time feels speaks much of film quality. Boyhood documents the early life of a boy called Mason, beginning at six, then continuing all the way through middle-school, high school and eventually his move to college at eighteen years of age. Although the story line is fairly simplistic and one might argue, unadventurous, the sheer ambition of the director is reason enough to hand your money over; shot over twelve years with the same group of actors, audiences can experience the true evolution of a character like never before. However as Linklater said himself, if the audience see this merely as an experiment, then he has failed at his task. The movie has its own story to tell. The aforementioned criticism of an overly simplistic plot is what makes the story so identifiable not just for young people, but for adults as well; the film could easily be called adulthood or parenthood or even take a more generalised title of Life - Linklater understands people, and is therefore one of the few modern filmmakers who understands the importance of well-rounded, interesting and relatable characters to tell a story. When watching Boyhood, you dont think of the ramifications, the possible pitfalls and how difficult it must have been to make. You instead choose to enjoy it at surface level, only truly appreciating the sheer brilliance of what has been achieved after the film. This really is a once-in-a-lifetime film and therefore a once-in-a-lifetime experience for anyone watching it. Soon to be a modern classic, this is a picture that will be looked back on as one of the greatest ever made.
