| Review: So Much has been written and talked about Taxi Driver that it seems almost superfluous to add something more. But see again the other night about the umpteenth time I was, as I have been every time I've seen it, struck by how perfect this movie is. There are so powerful and disturbing Now that was twenty-five pages. Not just age, it gets better and more relevant every year. This is arguably a modern classic and one of the few went really great, timeless and movies.Scorsese Schrader on to make other films after this good, individually (The King Of Comedy, Light Sleeper) and with ' to each other (Raging Bull, The Last Temptation Of Christ), but this is by far the best film in their careers. And Robert De Niro as well. He has yet to top his impressive performance here as a very disturbed and alienated Vietnam veteran Travis Bickle, a taxi driver and would be killer. The character is surprisingly committed to film legend. Scorsese De Niro surrounded with world-class supporting cast, including young but effective roles Harvey Keitel (Reservoir Dogs), Peter Boyle (hardcore), the underrated Victor Argo (The King Of New York) and Joe Spinell (Maniac). Albert Brooks and Jodie Foster also is very good, and even Cybil Shepherd, the butt of many jokes, right before Obsession Bickle. When you combine these actors, Schraders exceptional screenplay, great direction and Scorsese, with the stunning cinematography (Michael Chapman) and a haunting score (final push Hitchcock fave Bernard Herr Mann), you have yourself an unforgettable cinematic experience. If you have not seen Taxi Driver I encourage you to do so immediately. It is a masterpiece, pure and simple. |
